2008 American Hunter Pony Classic Sets New Records

The 2008 American Hunter Pony Classic established international records in several major categories. "This was a great auction. The bidding was competitive right from beginning of the sale." said Tim Jennings, Marketing Director of Professional Auction Services, Inc. "The catalog featured the best group of ponies ever offered at auction." New World Records were set for Average Sale Price at $16,317 and Gross Sales at $1,143,000, both 21% increases from 2007.

Other records were set for Average Price for the Top Ten Ponies sold at $44,300; Highest Priced Two-Year-Pony sold at auction at $37,500, the second Highest Priced Three-Year-Old pony sold at auction, $42,000; and the Highest Priced Three-Year-Old pony filly sold at auction, $41,500. Ponies sold to buyers from 21 states and Canada.

The record setting High Selling two year old was Falling Moon Celebration, a Welsh gelding by *Telynau Royal Anthem. The gelding was sold for $37,500 by Richard Taylor's Venture Stable as agent to Cathy Couture. Falling Moon Celebration was Grand Champion and Best Young Pony at The Devon Horse Show in 2007.

Also setting a new auction record for the highest selling three year old pony filly was Farmore Crown Jewel, a Welsh filly by *Telynau Royal Charter. The sale's high selling mare was coming off of a third place finish in the three year old fillies class at the 2008 Devon Horse Show. She was sold by Emily Anne Belin as agent for Virginia Banks, Editor of The Equine Marketer magazine. Farmore Crown Jewel was purchased by Susan Price of South Carolina.

Erwfforch Dewin Direidus

The highest marks ever awarded, described by Sports Pony Studbook Society Grading day judges as "a whopping 89.23%", have been notched up by a Welsh Cob stallion.

After being presented In-hand, loose schooled and then ridden, Erwfforch Dewin Direidus 39261 was chosen as Champion and awarded a Lifetime Grading by the Society.

‘Dewin’, one of five stallions at Welsh Sport Horses International based on Anglesey - took top honours in the recent event staged at The Heart of England Equestrian Centre, Staffordshire. Out of 74556 Gwrthafarn Bronwen and sired by Trevallion Can Comet 24000, Dewin has always been a popular sire of performance stock.

Mrs Anne Roberts who owns the stallion jointly with Mrs Jane Roberts said, "This was a fantastic performance. Dewin is returning to ridden work at the age of 15 after a seven year gap due to a driving injury. To achieve this - topping the list of entrants from all over the UK, is wonderful. He's a star"

He by now has numerous progeny, registered with the WPCS, SHB(GB) and other Societies who are representing him in the competition world. Hopefully he, with others, such as Carregoch Bleddyn will continue to fly the flag for the Welsh Breeds and prove you don't have to go abroad to buy the right horse.
